Your group’s adventure begins with a short guided orientation to learn more about the geological history of Herkimer County and how these fabulous quartz crystals formed millions of years ago. Your guide will then take you on a journey into the forest to our beautiful forested dig sites, providing tips and guidance on how and where to look for pockets and crystals!
There are many types of mining available for your group to enjoy! Whether you want to break ledge to search for a fresh pocket of crystals, sift through tailings piles for lost treasure, or dig in the soft forest soil for gems, there is something for every level of experience!
A field trip to Diamond Mountain is your group’s exclusive chance to find extremely rare Herkimer diamond formations such as scepters and barbells, as well as other cool forms like black diamonds, skeletal crystals, complex Herkimer clusters…and more! Even better — whatever crystal treasures you find are YOURS to keep!

Group trips are offered 7 days a week
Cost is $50 per person (ages 14 and up); $25 youth admission (ages 13 and under)
PLEASE NOTE: Minimum of 10 attendees required to book, 20 person maximum
All ages are welcome!
Closed-toed shoes are required — boots are recommended
All hand tools are welcome, but no power tools please
